And finally there was a weird privacy divider up near the headrests which could be pulled out about three inches, an interesting touch to perhaps provide just a bit of privacy from your seatmate. The individual screens were nice to see, another upgrade over the old B737-800, which had only overhead screens. That plane had had similar legroom to typical US domestic first class - the new seats had at least double if I had to guess, pretty much a class-leading seat pitch for a domestic first class style seat. The legroom was way better than on the old B737-800. The new seats offered very good seat pitch, individual screens, and electrical outlets, plus a leg/footrest which is always rare to see. I boarded my new Caribbean Airlines B737-MAX8 and found four rows of 2-2 recliners in business class. No boarding announcements were made, rather an agent manned the boarding lane to enforce the boarding order. Next business class was invited to board. Some guests in wheelchairs had been lined up ahead of time and pre-boarding began at 19:05. 9Y-GRN is one of Caribbean Airlines' nine new B737-MAX8's, having been delivered in May 2022. My plane, 9Y-GRN, arrived to gate 12 at 18:18. The only issue was the late night arrival time into JFK, but overall worth it for the great price and getting to fly Caribbean Airlines again on their new plane. And of course the great price for their business class. This time I had an evening departure out of Jamaica, MBJ-JFK for a dinner flight, and a brand-new plane, the B737-MAX8 with a new, modern cabin with individual screens. The B737-800 at the time had been very old-school, with big plush seats and overhead screens. Last time my Caribbean Airlines flight JFK-MBJ had been a morning flight with pretty bad food and non-existent service after breakfast. I was excited to fly Caribbean Airlines business class today, trying them a second time after my previous trip seven years ago. There was no line at security, and the Club Mobay lounge was adjacent to my gate. I checked my bag, and was provided a cardstock boarding pass and lounge pass. I was the first one checked-in, well, checked-in at the airport, receiving check-in sequence 76, since I had not completed online check-in ahead of time. When check-in opened, I ended up first in the priority queue for business class and Caribbean Airlines elite members. During the wait, agents went through the line doing the US-bound pre-departure passport checks and questioning. Check-in already had a short line, but didn't open until 16:20. The Caribbean Airlines check-in zone 1-8 was all the way at the end. Please enjoy the report, and I look forward to your comments. ![]() I was excited to fly Caribbean Airlines again, and even better, for a great price on a new plane. ![]() Their price was really good, and they were now operating their brand-new B737-MAX8 aircraft, having retired all their old B737-800s. I was happy to have found the Caribbean Airlines option to give them another try. Indeed for my return flight, the price of Caribbean Airlines business class MBJ-JFK was half the price of American economy class MBJ-PHL, not even counting American's additional fees for seats and bags. I am quite simply not willing to pay their outrageous fares. ![]() Unfortunately the other airline to PHL is American, who seems to very much enjoy price gouging their Philadelphia passengers. Frontier had a very good price even after all the optional fees, but they only offered flights on certain days of the week, which did not include my return date. This time I began by flying Frontier A320 PHL-MBJ. The opportunity came in February 2023 when I took my second trip to Jamaica. However I do always like to fly the local airline of my destination, and I had hoped that I would like Caribbean Airlines better on a possible future flight. Unfortunately the experience on Caribbean Airlines was quite underwhelming, with perhaps the worst business class meal I've had, and unattentive flight attendants providing only minimal levels of service. On that trip I had flown Caribbean Airlines B737-800 JFK-MBJ, returning Delta B737-800 MBJ-JFK. Caribbean Airlines new B737-8 ✈ MBJ-JFK Jīackground: My first trip to Jamaica was back in February 2016.
